Washing Machines & Tumble Dryers

Washing Machines
bullet pointWashing machines are becoming ever more efficient and cost less to run. Modern machines are so much easier to use; they spin at higher speeds..1200rpm now becoming the preferred choice and affordable. Mid to higher range washing machines now often utilise micochip technology to constantly test the cleanliness of the wash water to modify the wash. Occasionally a wash cycle can be ommitted entirely without sacrificing any loss in wash performance. Such machines usually have LCD displays to inform users how the wash programme is progressing and how much time is left before the final spin.

bullet pointAll machines are graded from 'A' to 'E' for Wash performance, Energy efficiency and Spin efficiency with "A-Grade" being the best in each area. For the best of the best – look out for "AAA-Grade" models.

bullet pointWash performance – An "A Grade" in Wash performance is awarded to machines which give the best wash results and prove to be the most efficient at removing stubborn stains.

bullet pointEnergy Efficiency – An "A Grade" Energy Efficient machine will save you money by using less water and electricity.

bullet pointSpin efficiency – Machines given an "A-Grade" for spin efficiency will reduce drying time by extracting more water from your wash than other machines.

bullet pointThe larger the washing machines drum capacity the more washing you can do at any one time. These larger capacity machines are useful for washing bulky items like bath towels but you should also be aware that washing smaller loads in a large drum will reduce creasing and make ironing easier.

bullet pointVirtually all Washing machines now are cold fill only models. In this way they take in cold water and heat it up to the temperature required by the programme selected. You will find most washing machines concentrate on 40 degree washes as detergents have been designed to work at these lower temperatures to maximise energy savings. Machines that can still take in water from the hot supply are actually less efficient and are more costly to run due minly to this change in detergent design. Look out for washing machines that offer "A" or "A" or "A+" energy rating. They are not that much more expensive and really pay for the additional outlay many times over.

bullet pointLook out for those washing machines that can take larger loads. 6kg are now quite common and now major names such as Hotpoint and Hoover now manufacturer washing machines that are the same physical size as normal but can take a 7kg load. The portholes are much larger as most makes have taken the lead of the Bosch Maxx and are now manufactured to a much more generous size, opening up to 180 degrees being flat against the machine. Ensure you purchase a washing machine that offers a silk wash or degrees from the position should you waste time and effort when your machine can wash delicate clothing so much better? Other desirable programmes include Extra Rinse, Variable Spin and Reduced Ironing and Time delay to utilise cheaper rate electricity.

bullet pointMost current Top Loading Washing Machines use a double door system . They obviously cannot be used under a work surface. The main door lifts up from the top of the machine allowing access to the drum which needs to be unlatched before allowing the loading or unloading of clothes. As the drum is turned 90 degrees from that of the front loader these machines are slimmer in the region of just 45cm so can sometimes be recommended where there is a little room in the kitchen or utilility room.

WASHER DRYERS

bullet pointThe Washer Dryer is now becoming more popular as efficiencies in design and manufacturer now result in far better reliability and performance not far behind the "pure" machine yet of course not taking up as much room through being able to offer both the features of a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Prices too have dramatically dropped. Browse our website to see what we have to offer!

TUMBLE DRYERS
bullet pointThere are two choices of tumble dryer, being the vented and the condenser. Vented tumble dryers exhaust the warm moist air away from the machine from an exhaust port which a hose can be fitted to direct the flow out of a window door or adaptor in the wall. A Condensor tumble dryer uses a system of metal plates to encourage condensation as the air is passed over. This water then collects in a container which is then manually emptied. It is possible to adapt some of these dryers to empty directly into the household plumbing system. The advantage of course of the condenser tumble dryer is that it can be positioned in a number of places in the home without the worry of a vent hose thus providing ease and security to the householder. It is worth considering the dryers that use a sensor to detect the dryness of the clothes or masterial inside especially as it is common for the machine to use cool air in the last ten minutes. Clothes that feel too damp will need further drying wasting time and energy.
